History
The Bowen Technique This modality was developed in Australia by gifted healer, Tom Bowen, during the 1950´s. The Bowen Technique gained increasing popularity, initially by word of mouth alone as its success in treating a variety of conditions became apparent. Tom Bowen ran a busy clinic in Geelong, Victoria, treating over 250 patients per week and estimated a success rate in the region of 90%.
In 1970 Tom introduced Oswald Rentsch, a natural therapist, to his methods and Ossie started the journey of learning, practising and documenting Toms modality. Up until his death in 1982, Tom Bowen continued evolving and refining his technique. It was only after Tom’s death that his modality was given the name ‘the Bowen Technique’ by Ossie and was taught by Ossie and later his wife Elaine. In 1987 the Rentch’s founded the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia, teaching the original Bowen Technique first of all throughout Australia and then taking it world wide.
Equine Muscle Release Therapy (EMRT™) Alison Goward, a stud owner, trained equine nurse, lecturer at the Queensland Institute of Natural Science, Bowen therapist and teacher, derived EMRT™ from the highly successful Bowen Technique. She knew that the human technique could not be directly transposed to the horse, and spent 10 years researching and developing EMRT™. EMRT™ was developed with the understanding that horses are athletes and like humans are subjected to stress and strain, which if not alleviated can lead to imbalances within the physical structure of the animal. EMRT™ can alleviate these imbalances by balancing and re-aligning the all body’s systems.
Alison collaborated with Equine Vet Dr. T.McEvoy BVSc (Hons) to make EMRT™ into a practitioner level course, which was then introduced throughout Australia in 1990 and taken worldwide there after.
Cat & Canine Muscle Release Therapy (CCmrt™) Due to an increasing number of enquires made to learn EMRT™ for dogs and cats, extensive and successful field trials using EMRT™ on cats and dogs has been carried out over the last 7 years by Alison Goward, Tina Spurling and EMRT™ Practitioners around the world. This research has been collated and Cat & Canine Muscle Release Therapy (CCmrt™) was developed by Alison Goward. The CCmrt™ Self Interest Course for dog and cat owners was developed in 2001. Since then the CCmrt™ Practitioner Course has been established and is currently being taught worldwide.
